Is iPhone 12, and iPhone 12 Mini Waterproof And Water Resistant?

Well, according to Apple’s technical specifications, the iPhone 12, and the iPhone 12 Mini all come with a water resistance rating of IP68.  Top gadget sites explain that you can break this ranking into three parts. “IP” stands for “International Protection Marking,” meaning the ranking is an international standard uses to assess how much a device can protect itself from dust and water.

Furthermore, the “6” in the ranking is the phone’s dust protection rating while the “8” ranks the phone’s water resistance says by Gadget Hacks. An “8” water resistance rating means that you can go underwater at a depth of at least one meter for up to 30 minutes without your iPhone been damaged. This is the minimum requirement for an 8 rating.

Now according to the iPhone 12 specs on Apple’s official website, the new iPhone 12 can be submerged in a maximum depth of two meters for up to 30 minutes, and the iPhone 12  Mini can be underwater for up to 30 minutes at a maximum depth of four meters.

This is to say that they have limitations and the iPhone 12 Pro Max can resist water damage at greater depths. Additionally, if the iPhone 12 accidental drop in a toilet bowl or swimming pool they are resistant to damage from spills as well, Apple says.

The company further claims that the iPhone 12 series are protected against accidental spills from common liquids such as coffee and soda.” It’s also worth to note that splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions” and that “resistance might decrease as a result of tear and wear.

So you can refer to a technician on how to thoroughly clean your phone when it comes in contact with water or any liquid. Finally, the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 is water-resistant but not fully waterproof. Apple also made it clear that the warranty does not cover liquid damage.
